3D UEFA Champions League in CINEMA

CABLE TV announces today (May 8) a joint initiative with four leading local cinema circuits to show the May 19 UEFA Champions League (UCL) Bayern Munich vs Chelsea final at cinemas in live 3D.

Participating cinema lines Broadway Circuit, Orange Sky Golden Harvest Entertainment (Hong Kong) Limited, Multiplex Cinema Limited (MCL) and UA Cinema Circuit Limited will show the exciting match at eight cinemas* conveniently located across Hong Kong.

"We are pleased to have the cinemas together with CABLE TV showing the UCL final in 3D live at the same time. With or without 3D equipment at home, football fans would surely be thrilled with the opportunity to watch the game in such an unprecedented way," says i-CABLE Sports Executive Director Mr. Ronald Chiu.

"This initiative is an exciting first. If it is well received by local sports fans, we would be happy to extend our cooperation with the cinema operators to bring Hong Kong people more premium sports programming this way," he says.

The final will come with original professional English commentary. Other than the match itself, the trophy presentation ceremony and the post-game celebrations will also be screened in its uncut live version.

Broadway Circuit Executive Director Ms Tessa Lau: "Local cinemas started going digital in 2008. Since then we have been bringing cinema-goers various types of non-movie programmes such as concerts, operas and Chinese operas. Our cooperation with CABLE TV to show the UCL final on silver screens would surely take football fans' viewing experience to new and unmatched levels.".

Orange Sky Golden Harvest Head of Hong Kong Business Ms Belinda Tang: "Further to our 2010 screening of 3D football matches, this year we are privileged to work with CABLE TV to bring the UCL final in 3D live. Fans would certainly be in for a thrill."

Multiplex Cinema General Manager Ms June Wong: "We are excited for the opportunity to carry such an important game which is right in line with MCL's policy of proactively bringing overseas programming to Hong Kong. Previous successes include live concerts, sports events and operas which have since become part of local cinema repertoire much looked forward to by audiences. All these indicate MCL's efforts in developing such contents for cinemas and we are privileged to be joining forces with CABLE TV in this initiative."

UA Cinema Circuit Deputy General Manager Ms Vicky Wong: "Three cinema houses in our UA line will be screening this premium European football final to bring viewers the excitement of this match with the silver screen. We shall endeavour to provide more mega sports programming at our cinemas to give viewers better choice of quality entertainment."

Interested viewers can buy tickets at $250 each via the cinemas' respective websites starting today. Admission starts at 2:15 am on May 20 and the match will kick off at 2:45 am.

CABLE TV will broadcast the final live on its Sports Platform in multiple formats. The 3D version will be available on hd204 and could be viewed by "HD Sports Pack" subscribers with their 3D television sets without additional charge. HD will be on hd201 and hd203 whereas SD will be on Channels 61 and 64.

CABLE TV's designated subscribers can also watch the live game on their iOS smart devices using i-CABLE's self-developed mobile app.
